Fulbright Grant Activities

Thank to the generous grant from the Fulbright Program, Prof. Vasic is visiting the Faculty of Electronic Engineering (ELEF), University of Nis, Serbia in Spring semester of 2015.

 

Research

The research is aimed at the promotion and application of the new type of error correction codes, called low-density parity check (LDPC) codes. Currently, LDPC codes are considered the most powerful coding technique available to transmit information over various communications channels. Wireless networks, satellite communications, deep-space communications, power line communications are among applications where the LDPC codes are standardized. Recently LDPC codes have found their way in magnetic hard disk drives and optical communications, and they are the main candidates for ECC system in flash memories. Although not visible by a user, any mouse click to save files on our computer and every phone call we make from our mobile phone involves encoding and decoding data by LDPC code on the physical level of data transmission.

 

Teaching

The teaching activities are the part of the doctorate program at ELEF, and organized as a short (one month) course Low-Density Parity Check Codes and specifically emphasize fundamentals, construction, decoding of LDPC codes and their performance in digital communications channels.
